Prospects of partnership with Poland in the air-dropped space project

19.01.2022

On January 18, 2022, Volodymyr Taftai, Head of the State Space Agency of Ukraine, and Dr. Grzegorz Wrochna, Head of the Polish Space Agency, with the assistance and participation of the Embassy of Ukraine in Poland, held the first joint meeting on cooperation in space. THETA Institute was invited to participate in the meeting and present Orbit Boy space project, which became the key subject of the discussion. THETA outlined the main features and highlighted core advantages of Orbit Boy in comparison with similar projects that develop airborne technologies for launching space rockets, as well as the progress the Institute made due to foreign investments.
Dr. Wrochna informed about major changes in the organisational structure of the agency that opened up opportunities for going beyond forming national space policies to implementing dedicated space projects. Given its geographical location, Poland sees a compelling prospect of joining the airdropped space rocket project as the one that can unlock outer space for Polish companies that are showing significant progress in building micro- and nano-satellites.
The parties decided to form a working group and move on to topic-focused discussions on participation in Orbit Boy project and development of an action plan.
